PIEA Members:
After many years of planning and general effort by a
myriad of your fellow PIEA members, we are about to
begin a new dimension to our organization.
I am pleased to announce that the PIEA Journal for
Photographic Education Search Committee has completed
its work and a vote by the PIEA Board has been taken on
their recommendation. The Search Committee was composed
of Emily Stay, Des Crawly and Committee Chair Craig
Satterlee and happily for us agreed to work on this
important matter during the summer. They sorted through
the application packets and sent a set of thorough,
identical questions to each candidate. After
deliberation, the PIEA Board received their
recommendation. The search committee deserves our
gratitude for their hard work on PIEA's behalf.
The committee's recommendation stated that Professor
Janet Bonsall from the University of Central Missouri be
appointed to the position of Editor of the PIEA Journal
for Photographic Education.
The PIEA Board vote on the recommendation was held
between August 8 and 12th. The voting members of the
PIEA Board are: President-Elect Carole Lichty-Smith,
Vice President, International Affairs Waldemar Bussiahn,
Director-At-Large Andrew Davidhazy, Past-President Lex
Youngman and myself. All members voted in favor of the
appointment. (Normally a voting member, then-Vice
President Bonsall did not vote, of course.)
A note on the latter: The PIEA Board is currently in the
process of replacing Professor Bonsall for the remainder
of the VP's term which lasts through the annual meeting
in March. Another announcement on the status of the Vice
President position will be made to membership in the
near future.
I would also like you to join me in pledging our
assistance to the new PIEA Journal Editor as she begins
the arduous task of starting our organization's journal.
Very soon you will receive notification regarding the
first call for submissions, a general overview of the
review process and other associated information.
For the moment, though, I just want to say how excited
the PIEA Board is to be able to see the journal go
forward. However, if the PIEA Journal for Photographic
Education is to be successful we will all need to help
promote this enterprise through our participation and
support.
